Pregnancy – a beautiful journey
Pregnancy stages
One of the most crucial planning in anyone’s life is planning a baby, because once a baby is in the womb it’s not just about the woman anymore, everything becomes about the mother and her child. No one can guide the mother fully in these months because pregnancy is different from woman to woman. Even two pregnancy of a woman might not be exactly the same. But the experience of other mom’s can be of great help as all have different ways to tackle their pregnancy challenges.
The period of pregnancy is broadly divided in 3 trimesters.
First trimester which consists of the first 3 months of pregnancy are considered the most important. Since the first trimester is said to be the most risky for pregnancy, it is always safe and recommended to keep the good news limited to family and close ones.
After the pregnancy is confirmed, the mother should select one prenatal health care/ doctor for her pregnancy. The doctor will give the mother with required prenatal vitamins which should be taken with care. The to-be parents should research enough and consult their doctor and familiarize themselves with the dos and don’ts.
The first trimester will come with few pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness, hormonal changes, fatigue, weight gain and frequent urination. The mother should undergo a complete physical examination and all the necessary tests. One of the important things to do is to find out if any genetic abnormality exists in the family history. This is helpful for the doctor to find out any potential problems during the pregnancy or birth and it can be dealt as soon as possible.
The first trimester brings with itself the need to reassess one’s lifestyle which continues for the whole of pregnancy period. With a big list of what not to do comes a list of what should be taken in to consideration while pregnancy. Moms-to-be should stop smoking and alcohol intake.
Doctors would also recommend watching the intake of caffeine. Drinks like coffee or tea can be taken but in moderation. Junk food should be avoided and replaced with nutritious foods. One way to assure this is to fill the kitchen with fresh and healthy food and try different recipes to avoid boredom. Also she should identify food products which builds acidity and gas and should avoid them.
As much as eating habit is important, drinking adequate amount of fluids hold equal importance. One should keep self-hydrated enough.
With correct food, it is very important not to miss on the vitamin supplements as prescribed by the doctor. This also means that if any other medicine has to be taken it should be done with doctors advice.
In this trimester it is very common for many moms to-be to experience mood swings. This is because of the stress and hormonal changes taking place in the body that they may feel much heightened emotions, both positive and negative, or would be anxious or depressed. This could be minimised by eating simple food and having adequate rest.
If the first trimester is taken care of, it will be easy for the mom to be, to feel good in the second and third trimester.
